How to Record a Video Call to Get the Best Results and Reuse as Ready-to-Publish Assets!

The best part of video calls are the ability to easily record them and reuse the content in a number of different ways!

You can send the file directly to anyone who may have missed the call. But they are also great because you can upload that recorded content to your Asset Library on the Blended Sense platform, and then we can chop it up into ready to publish assets to use across your business!

The two most common Video Calls will be Zoom and Google Hangouts. Each have an integrated option to record the call with a single click of a button.

Let’s get started.

Preparation: Space and Face

You are about to be on camera, and so is whatever you have behind you!

Before the call starts, set up a quiet area that is free of background noise and distractions. This is so you can focus and your viewers can too!

What to look for:

  • Solid color background
  • Bright space with ample lighting on your face. Position yourself with a window on your face or use supplemental lighting to help you shine bright!
  • Add greenery like plants to bring energy to the image if not using a virtual background.
  • Prepare a virtual background or use one provided by Zoom or Hangouts. You can also blur the background. *If using a virtual background, make sure the wall behind you is solid with nothing on it.*
  • Bonus: hang a Green-screen behind you to make sure your virtual background is smooth and clear.

What to avoid:

  • Backlight: from a window or a light.
  • Busy space with people walking around behind you.
  • Distracting art or decorations.

A prepared Space gives you a solid foundation to focus on your performance on camera!

Now to prep your face!

The info you are sharing is important, but as the Host, you are the main event!

Place your computer or camera at your level at eye line or slightly above.

Looking down into the camera is unflattering for anyone.

Take a look at the video below to learn how to warm up and position your body so that you both feel great and sound great!

Now its time for the main event! The LIVE RECORDING!

Video Calls make it easy to record with the single click of a button.

How to set up recording on Zoom:

How to set up a recording in Google:

***It’s important that you let your guests know you will be recording ahead of time. Remind everyone to keep their microphones off unless speaking. You can also mute the whole group if needed.

What to do during the call?!

Act natural!

Speak clearly!

BONUS: Use a microphone for the best audio quality. Headphones with a built in microphone work great or an external microphone connected to the computer does too.

  • Windows: C:\Users\[Username]\Documents\Zoom
  • Mac: /Users/[Username]/Documents/Zoom
  • Linux: home/[Username]/Documents/Zoom

On Google right after the call finishes, the video will automatically convert into a file and send to your email associated with your account! Download and save to your computer.

Once you locate your file, upload into your Asset Library in your account for our Editors to access and turn into all kinds of ready to post content!
