A New Kind of Production Calls for Safe Sets

A Time for Innovation: We’re Overdue for Sets to be Better! More Inclusive, Efficient, Safe, and Less Draining for Creative Professionals, All Around.

Ask anyone who works in TV, film, or commercials if the industry is challenging, and they’ll  respond with a resounding, “Yes!” Challenging work is fine, but challenging work does not mean exhausting all your energy and health, overwhelming your personal life, and forcing you into a toxic culture.

The “this is the way it's always been, so suck it up because the next guy is behind you” mentality that is dominating the culture on sets everywhere, is destroying the very makers and doers who keep the industry going in the first place.

As an actor, my perspective comes from being behind the camera, and looking out into the sea of creatives and crew. If you pay close enough attention, you notice everything

This includes  an outdated, arduous process that traditional productions use. By traditional, I mean: big spending, weeks of preparation, long 14-hour + days on set, weeks of revisions, all for a single piece of content!

Sure, this kind of process may be necessary for certain projects, but today's average small business owner needs a budget friendly, time saving, value- driven approach to creating digital assets for their business.

Recently, crew members from across the industry have been coming forward on social media telling their stories of the conditions they too often find themselves in when producing content, - particularly while working in “new media”.

Environments that not only fail to meet, but ignore their basic needs are the norm, but this is quickly changing. The account @ia_stories began posting anonymous stories several months ago and an alarming amount of them paint the picture of overworked to the point of life threatening scenarios. Stories of sexism and racism within the production hierarchy are woven weaved throughout the posts. When we hear this at Blended Sense, our passion for creating a New Kind of Production reaches a peak! fires up! The demands for change in this industry greatly impacts media technology and the ways in which creative professionals work everywhere.

Clearly, Which means, the ways that small businesses are serviced by creators must evolve.  too. Projects can no longer eat up entire budgets, output must match the input of effort, and everyone involved must feel positive about the job at hand while maximizing the collective resources.

To do that, the entire vibe of “set culture” needs to be aligned and energized with positive intentions. To align the energy, the creative team needs to be in sync. In order to get your team in sync, they need to trust each other. And tTrust is the result of feeling empowered with reliable information about who's on set who, what the job is, and how each person is involved.

By using the word ‘practice’ we acknowledge that it is a constantly n ever evolving process that really takes consistent focus. Our goal is to impact the production industry in a positive way. The entire industry is long overdue for a change. he way we want to. A major indicator that we are onto something is the IATSE strike found finding momentum with their message,  and the public is becoming becoming more aware of how these once- elusive creative industries really function. Transparency allows the underrepresented, unheard, and overlooked to have a voice and create meaningful change.
